How to... Choose Block Paving

Driveway How To...

Block Paving.

When you are planning to install a driveway or patio, using Block Paving, is one of the most economical products to use and install. A few pointers and tips to consider when planning your project are as follows, in no particular order:

Step 1. Choose a colour, one that enhances your property and its surroundings, or, make a statement by choosing a contrasting palette.

Step 2. Choose your look or style, traditional, cobbled, smooth, granite or permeable.

Step 3. Set your budget, did you know that the installation costs typically account for 75-80 % of the landscaping budget? It therefore pays to stick to what you really want, as using a premium product will only marginally increase your total project outlay. Don’t forget while you’re looking at your costs, that you’re adding extra living space to your home, as well as extra long-term value.

Step 4. Choose a pattern. Random use a three size mix. Herringbone, ideal for areas with heavy traffic. Basket weave, for light traffic areas.   Stretcher bond, ideal for narrow spaces.

Step 5. DIY or use a professional installer. Suppliers such as Natural Paving and Brett have Approved Installers, they are vetted and offer guarantees on all work. If you use an installer, agree a fixed budget with them for the work you want doing.

If you go down the DIY route don’t forget to allow for extras like fencing, plants, furniture and wastage etc.

Paving and Flagstones.

“Choosing natural stone in preference to coloured concrete gives you a beautiful and unique long lasting product and sound investment for your home”. (Natural Paving Products).

Installing natural stone has similar costs to installing concrete products; between 75–80 % of the costs of a project is installation.

Natural stone offers:

Attractiveness, offering unique blends of colours and tones. Colours are not pigmented unlike concrete, making it more attractive.

Natural stone will retain its look over time. Natural stone is durable and frost resistant. Natural stone has smaller joints, which means that it is less prone to seed germination in the sand joints. It is easy to clean, to install and can be laid similar to concrete.
